“I've been on the WIFTI Board since 1999 and still feel honoured to be
part of an organization that helps bridge the global filmmaking
expanse. The women of WIFT International are working hard, both
locally and internationally, to provide networking opportunities
and professional development workshops and to highlight women's
achievements in this worldwide screen industry.”
— Fiona
Milburn, 2005 WIFTI Chair
Whether you’re already a member of the entertainment
community – or would like to become a part of it – Women In Film
has a chapter for you.
Women In Film & Television International
(WIFTI) is a global network of 35 Women In Film chapters worldwide. With more than 10,000 members,
WIFTI is dedicated to advancing the professional development and
achievement of women working in all areas of film, video and
other screen-based media.
By linking the WIF chapters for the pursuit of common goals, WIFTI strives
to:
- Enhance the international visibility of women in the entertainment industry
- Facilitate and encourage communication and cooperation internationally
- Develop bold international projects and initiatives
- Stimulate professional development and global networking opportunities for women
- Promote and support chapter development
- Celebrate the achievements of women in all areas of the industry
- Encourage diverse and positive representation of women in screen-based media worldwide
It’s not just business; it’s personal. The bi-annual WIFTI Summit provides a
face-to-face forum for networking and information sharing for
women worldwide.
The New York chapter hosted the first official WIFTI Summit in
Manhattan in September 1997. The Summit moved to Los Angeles,
the capital of the entertainment world, in 1998, then in 2000, flew “across the
pond” to London, where the Canadian and U.K. chapters toasted
WIFTI’s international flavor with a cocktail reception at the
Houses of Parliament.
The 2002 WIFTI Summit served up Jamaica’s vibrant culture and cuisine in
Montego Bay, with an event aptly named “One Pot Stew… A
Celebration of Diversity.” Auckland, New Zealand continued the
Summit’s jaunt around the globe, enlisting “Xena: Warrior
Princess” Lucy Lawless as the 2004 host.
The 2005 WIFTI Summit
returned to its Hollywood roots, bringing events full circle in
Los Angeles, where Women In Film began.
